tl;dr: Join us Friday, January 18th from 7-9 pm at the Cambridge Friends Meeting House to buy yummy baked goods, bid on amazing fiber and tools at the auction, and score some great deals at the yard sale! Pricing at the yard sale is 50 cents an ounce for fiber – for example a 4 oz (about 100 g) skein will be $2. Books and magazines will be also be available.

What do Vogue Knitting, Julia Farwell-Clay and Ashford all have in common?

They all made items featured at our annual yarn sale and auction, being held on Friday, January 18th at the Cambridge Friends Meeting house, 5 Longfellow Park, near Harvard Square, Cambridge, with free parking along Longfellow Park.

Julia Farwell-Clay donated a sweater she knit – Twist Collective’s Cottage Garden by Cheryl Burke. It is a bust size 40, knit in Halcyon Yarn Victorian 2-ply, a sport-weight, non-superwash wool. Enough yarn for this sweater costs $70, but how can we put a price on such amazing work? Bids start at $120 to own this amazing hand knit sweater at the live auction.

Attention spinners and dyers! A generous member donated an Ashford Blending Board, in a NEW and SEALED box! This retails for $195 and contains a 12” x 12” lacquered board, 108 point card cloth, with handle, blending brush and dowels for drafting, rolling and removing rolls. Bids start at $100 at the live auction.

Vogue Knitting recently updated their Ultimate Knitting book, and another generous soul donated their copy of the 2002 version of the book – still sealed in its original plastic! Bidding starts at $15 at the live auction.

We have been picking up and collecting yarn from members and the amazingly generous Minds Eye Yarns. There will be auction-quality lots as well as plenty of “pick your own” yarn for 50 cents an ounce – that’s right, 4 oz skein are only $2! There will also be a bake sale full of savory and sweet goodies, to eat then or take home. Cash, check and cards are all accepted, and all funds raised go to Common Cod Fiber Guild, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, to help pay for our monthly speakers and room rental fees.

This meeting has FREE admission. If you would like to donate bake sale items or yarn/books/magazines/tools, please contact guild@commoncod.com to arrange drop-off/pick up or get details about how the state of Massachusetts requires packaging of bake sale items.
